Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing." - Daniel Webster, June 1, 1837

International Attention For Lee County

Commissioners Shook, Womack, Parks
Oppose Deals Like The One That
Brought Caterpillar's Here

Good International publicity for Lee County like that from a recent BBC article <click here> isn't very common. The article on the role of big business in employment cited the ongoing expansion of Caterpillar here in Sanford.

The article also provides some statistics that would call into question an alternative advocated by Commissioner Womack of focusing on small business.  In a sidebar the BBC News reports that small businesses (10 people or less) are responsible for only 10% of US jobs.  Womack claims to have developed three plans for economic growth of Lee County but has refused to make any of these available in response to a request for public information.
