Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing." - Daniel Webster, June 1, 1837

The NC Legislature's Dumbest Action of 2011

Just where do North Carolina citizens need to stand in longer lines? NC legislators seem to think the Driver License Office, based on a new law taking effect New Years Day. Young drivers who apply for learner's permits in North Carolina must turn in logs to prove they have driven 60 hours under their first graduated license and 12 under their second.  The teenagers are supposed to keep them and their parents sign them. Yeah?  A DMV spokesman says "cheating is not recommended."

Here is some news for the supposed conservative legislature.  Parents who care about their children will see they get behind the wheel experience; those that don't will let their kids handle the forms.  Meanwhile, any citizen will be compelled to spend more time waiting, waiting, and waiting ....

Note:  If you are wondering, 2 members of the House of Representatives (Bradley; Starnes) and no members of the Senate had the common sense to vote against the bill, which was introduced (to add insult to injury) by a Republican--David Rouzer.
